Maths Learning
I have learnt how to work out fraction of a set problems/Equations.
For example -
C. Rebecca ate two pieces of the apple pie, what fraction of the pie did she eat?
Rebecca has $25 and she gave ⅖ of her money to her sister.
How much does she got left?
5 x 5=$25
1/5 of $25 = $5
2/5 of $25 = 10
5 x 2=$10
25-10=15
Answer - 15

4÷72=18
1/2 of 72=36
1/2 of 36=18
B) He sells 1/2 of his 45 pigs. Show how to work out how many pigs he sells?
1/3 of 45=15
I counted in 15s upto 45.
C) He sells 1/6 of his 84 sheep. Show how to work out how many sheep he sells.
1/6 of 84 =14
6x 84 =14

Maths Portfolio Multiplication & Division
I am able to solve multiplication problem at level 3
1. When Jasmine makes lemonade she uses 6 lemons for every litre of water. How many lemons does she need for
i) 2 litres of water? 6 x 2= 12 Double the six makes 12
ii) 3 litres of water? 6 x 3= 18 Triple the six makes 18
iii) 10 litres of water? 6 x 10= 60(10 x 10 x 10 x 10 x 10 x 10)
2. Devinda is doing some baking. When he uses his mum's recipe he can make 8 muffins. When he doubles the recipe he gets 16 muffins. How many lots of the recipe does he need to make
i) 24 muffins? 24 divided into 8 equal groups.
3- Because 3 x 8= 24
ii) 32 muffins? 32 divided into 8 groups
4- because 8 x 4 = 32
iii) 56 muffins? 52 Divided into 8 groups
7- Because 8 x 7 = 52
Maths Portfolio Fraction
I am able to solve level 3 fraction problems.
A farmer is selling some of his animals.
1. The farmer sells ¼ of his 72 cows. Show how to work out how many cows he see.
4 x 10 = 40
4 x 8 = 32
40 + 32 = 72
10 + 8 = 18 <----- ¼ of his 72 cows
2. He sells ⅓ of his 45 pigs. Show how to work out how many pigs he sells.
3 x __ =45
3 x 5 = 15
3 x 10 = 30
15 + 30 = 45
10 + 5 = 15 <----- ⅓ of his 45 pigs
Answers: 45
3. He sells ⅙ of his 84 sheep. Show how to work out how many sheep he sells.
6 x___= 84
84 divided by 6 = 14
14 x 6 = 84
10 + 4 = 14 <----- ⅙ of his 84 sheep
Answer: 14
Maths portfolio Addition & Subtration
I am learning to solve addition and subtraction using level 3
1. Maraea is saving to buy a cat. In 3 weeks she has saved $9, $56 and $72.
Show how to work out how much she has saved altogether.
I am able to work out this problem using Level 3 Strategy:Place Value
I am able to work out this problem using Level 3 Strategy:Place Value
$9,$56 and $72
$50 + $70 = $120
$6 + $2 = $8 + $9 = $17
$120 + $17 = $137
$50 + $70 = $120
$6 + $2 = $8 + $9 = $17
$120 + $17 = $137
2. Tom saves his money each month to buy a dog. In 4 months he has saved $36, $78, $203, and $123. Show how to work out how much he has saved altogether.
I am able to work out this problem using Level 3 Strategy: Place Value
I am able to work out this problem using Level 3 Strategy: Place Value
$36 ,$78 ,$203 and $123
$200 + $100 = $300
$30 + $70 = $100 + $20 = $120
$3 + $3 = $6 + $6 = $12 + $8 = $20
$123 + $120 = $243
$243 + $300 = $543 + $20 = $563
Answer: 563
3. Te Ao is saving to buy a horse. So far she has saved $17, $160, $72, and $148. Show how to work out how much she has saved altogether.
I am able to work out this problem using Level 3 Strategy: Place Value
$17,$160 ,$72 and $148
$100 + $100 = $200
$40 + $60 = $100
$10 + $70 = $80
$8 + $2 = $10 + $7 = $17
$200 + 100 = 300 + 80 = 380 + 17 = 397
Answer: 397
